Engineering construction update: Aug. 22, 2024

Here is information about engineering campus construction activities that may affect you in the coming week.

Constants:

  • Please avoid all fenced areas.
  • Use designated routes to travel through the engineering campus.
  • Use designated crosswalks to cross streets, and please refrain from climbing over barriers.
  • Keep your eyes up. Be aware of construction (and related) vehicles entering and exiting locations across the engineering campus.

Changes and closures anticipated in the week ahead:

  • Along the roadways adjacent to 1410 Engineering Drive, crews are removing landscaping and concrete to prepare for future temporary relocation of Engineering Drive. Since this area currently is not fenced, please use the sidewalk on the Engineering Hall side of Engineering Drive.

For future planning or awareness:

  • For a period of time, the Engineering Drive entrance to the Engineering Research Building will close. At that point, you will need to access the building through the interior of the Mechanical Engineering Building, the elevated walkway from the Materials Science & Engineering Building, or the accessible ramp on the Engineering Mall side of the building.
  • Engineering Drive will experience temporary realignment at various times during construction. We will provide as much notice as we are able. We expect the drive to remain open for the entire project; however, you may experience temporary slowdowns or stops for periodic work. The first realignment will occur early in September, when Engineering Drive will shift northward to run adjacent to 1410 Engineering Drive.

Additional notes:

  • Bike racks currently are located in the space between Engineering Hall and Lot 17. Please avoid construction trailers between these bike racks and the athletics facilities.

Once again, our goal is to keep you informed about what’s happening for your safety and route-planning purposes. As always, many factors, including weather and other unknowns, may impact construction activities. If our contractors need to make unanticipated changes, I ask that you respect their instructions, and be patient with them and others. And be safe: Whether you are on foot, bike, scooter, moped, in a vehicle, or otherwise, be alert and know what’s happening around you. If you see an immediate safety concern, please reach out right away.
